Aging Gracefully With Ayurveda

Since ancient times humanity has been concerned with developing and preserving youthful vigor and extending longevity by stopping or delaying the aging process.

Ayurveda talks about three stages of life:

  • Kapha Stage -from birth to about 20 year of age
  • Pitta Stage – from 20 – 45 years old
  • Vata Stage – 45+ years old

According to Ayurveda the old age starts around 70 years.

What is the secret to feeling good and aging gracefully? It is important to eat light, nutritious and easy to digest diet. One should eat according to their individual type and incorporate all six tastes in the diet. It is important to eat fresh, vibrant organic foods, including plenty of fruits and vegetables, fiber-rich foods and oils.

Aging Gracefully With Ayurveda

Overcooked, undercooked, burnt, bad-tasting, unripe, overripe, putrified, stale food is dead food. It’s best to minimize leftovers and frozen or microwaved food. Eat only after the previous meal has been digested. It is recommended to sip warm water with your meal. Otherwise drink plenty of clean, filtered water throughout the day, avoid excessive amount of sugar, alcohol and caffeine.

Anything that affects our consciousness is considered food as well. Having a regular Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation practice directly nourishes our deeper consciousness. Physical exercises prevent age- related health conditions and improve mental health as well.

Aging is inevitable. Lifestyle, dietary habits, addictions, mental makeup, social and family life, medication, and many other environmental factors may influence the aging process, and cause premature aging. It is important to practice stress-free lifestyle enriched with moral code of conducts and healthy diet plus exercise to make this stage of life healthy and happy.
